Poul Skytte Christoffersen, head of cabinet for Mariann Fischer Boel, European commissioner for agriculture, will become Denmark’s permanent representative to the EU on 1 May. Christoffersen did the same job at the permanent representation in 1995-2003.
Olivier Guersent has been appointed director of the cartels department in the Commission’s directorate-general for competition. Guersent is currently a head of unit in the mergers department. The cartels post became vacant after the transfer of Kirtikumar Mehta to the post of principal adviser in the competition directorate-general on 1 March.
Guntars Krasts, a Latvian Nationalist (UEN) MEP, will head the list for Libertas in Latvia in the European Parliament elections in June. Krasts was prime minister of Latvia in 1997-98. He is not a member of a political party, having left the Fatherland and Freedom party last year.
Martin Sjöberg has been appointed head of European affairs for the CFA Institute, an association for professional investors, taking charge of the institute’s new Brussels office.
